The generic answer is once a year. On this stretch of the Gulf Coast, that answer
is a little optimistic, and the reason is the air itself.
What coastal air does to a condenser
Salt carried inland settles on the outdoor coil and accelerates corrosion on the fins and
the electrical contacts. A unit in New Port Richey ages faster than the same unit thirty
miles inland. Rinsing the coil matters more here, and so does inspecting contactors for
pitting.
What humidity does to the rest
Long cooling seasons mean long runtimes and a lot of condensate. Drain lines clog, float
switches trip, and pans overflow. A drain treated at the start of the season is a
non-event. An untreated one is a ceiling stain.
A realistic schedule
Service before the cooling season, every year, without exception. If your system is more
than eight years old, sits within a few miles of open water, or runs nearly year round, a
second visit in autumn is worth it. Change filters on the actual condition of the filter
rather than the calendar, and check monthly during peak season.
What a real visit includes
Measured refrigerant pressures, capacitor tested under load, contactor inspected, coil
cleaned, drain cleared and treated, airflow checked, electrical connections torqued. Ask for
the readings. A technician who took measurements can give you numbers.
HVAC Pro services New Port Richey and the surrounding communities, and we leave the
measurements with you every visit.
